Periactin (Cyproheptadine hydrochloride) is an antagonist of histamine and serotonin receptors first generation. In 1961 the drug appear in the United States under the brand name Periactin® (Periactin) from Merck&Co. Under this brand of cyproheptadine hydrochloride was available in the US for many years, but in 2003 Merck&Co year voluntarily stops selling drug in the U.S. and Canada. Despite the fact that Merck Co stopped selling Periactin and in several other countries (probably because of low financial benefits), the brand is still available in over a dozen countries, including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Thailand and the UK. It is also sold under numerous other brands around the world, in the form of both single and multi ingredient preparations.
